Using as a theme the contribution of livestock guardian dogs to the conservation of natural heritage — including the wolf, but also the native livestock and dog breeds associated with extensive grazing and, naturally, the landscape — a lecture on the Livestock Guardian Dog Programme was presented at the European Heritage Days. This lecture, which focused on the main results and impacts of the Programme, also highlighted the traditional use of livestock guardian dogs, particularly in the communal herds that were once common in the region, where they were known as the "people's dog" or "watchdog". The lecture, held at the Castro Daire Municipal Library on 28 September, was also attended by local producers participating in the Livestock Guardian Dog Programme.
