Terre de Femmes Award

"Terre de Femmes" Award

The work developed by biologist Silvia Ribeiro, within the scope of the Livestock Guardian Dog Program, was recognized with the awarding of 2nd place in the Terre de Femmes 2011 Prize.

A well‑deserved recognition of the commitment shown since 1996 and the success of the aforementioned Program, which to date has allowed the delivery of more than 250 dogs to flocks in Northern and Central Portugal, and has contributed to demonstrating that coexistence with wolves is possible.

The Terre de Femmes Award is organized in 15 countries, including Portugal, honoring eco‑citizen women in Europe. Proposed by the Yves Rocher Foundation, the Terre de Femmes Award's main objective is to reward entrepreneurial women in the environmental field who have developed projects that contribute to environmental sustainability.

BES Biodiversity Award

In 2010, the work carried out over 25 years by Grupo Lobo in favor of the conservation of the Iberian wolf in Portugal, namely through the Livestock Guardian Dog Program, was recognized with the awarding of the BES Biodiversity Prize, which distinguished the project: Conserving the wolf in Portugal: from theory to practice.

The support obtained allowed us to maintain some practical wolf conservation measures, in addition to the aforementioned Program, such as the development of an Educational Package about the wolf, to be made available to schools, and the continuation of wolf monitoring actions in the central region of the country, where the wolf population is particularly threatened.
