In the year when Biodiversity Conservation is in focus and Grupo Lobo celebrates its 25 years of existence, our work is recognised with the award of the BES Biodiversity Prize, for the project Conserving the Wolf in Portugal: from Theory to Practice. This project recognises the work of Grupo Lobo, since its creation in 1985, for the conservation of the Iberian wolf in Portugal. It aims to support some practical wolf conservation measures with particular emphasis on the Livestock Guardian Dog Programme, which has been very successful among livestock farmers. Other supported measures include the development of an Educational Package on the wolf to be made available to schools and the continuation of wolf monitoring activities in the central region of the country, where the wolf population is particularly threatened.
