Adequate management of a breed or a group of animals must be based on demographic and genetic parameters. The study of these parameters based on genealogical data, though still uncommon in dog breeds, is a very useful tool in the management of populations. A study was developed in collaboration with the Clube do Cão de Castro Laboreiro and the Applied Genetics Laboratory of the Environmental Biology Centre of the Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon to assess the evolution and current state of the Castro Laboreiro Dog nucleus built by Grupo Lobo. The analysis of results, based on 168 animals, revealed a genetically healthy population.
