Under the Green Days initiative, a European initiative aimed at raising awareness of natural values and the importance of their conservation, a hiking trail entitled "Through Wolf Lands" was organised on 30 May in the Serra do Alvão, focusing on the need to conserve the Iberian wolf and its habitat. The departure of a goat flock on its daily grazing route started the walk, allowing participants to speak with the shepherds and observe a pair of Cão de Castro Laboreiro livestock guardian dogs, placed there by Grupo Lobo to reduce conflicts between rural communities and wolf conservation, as they accompanied the flock to the top of the mountain. During the walk, various points of cultural and natural interest were visited, with signs of wolf presence and other animal species observed. The route ended at the end of the day at the Fojo do Lobo of Samardã (an ancient stone wolf trap used to capture the predator), where a storytelling session was held on the mythical dimension of the wolf in Portuguese oral tradition, with the collaboration of writer and researcher Alexandre Parafita. This activity, organised by Grupo Lobo and the Núcleo de Estudos e Protecção do Ambiente (NEPA), in collaboration with the Academic Association of the University of Trás‑os‑Montes e Alto Douro and the Alvão Natural Park, was once again developed by the company Montes de Encanto.
