Ecotourism walk in Serra do Alvão showcases livestock guardian dogs in their role

As part of its Ecotourism programme, and in collaboration with the Clube do Cão de Castro Laboreiro, Grupo Lobo organised, over the weekend of 28‑29 March, a hiking trail entitled "Dogs, Shepherds and Wolves" to observe Cão de Castro Laboreiro livestock guardian dogs in their primary function — protecting flocks from predators. On this walk, developed by the tourism company Montes de Encanto, participants (dog breeders and others) had the opportunity to discover the beauty of the mountain landscapes of the Serra do Alvão (Vila Real district) and the biodiversity inherent in the rural world, where native livestock and dog breeds coexist with emblematic wild species such as the Iberian wolf. In the villages visited and on the walks taken, it was possible to find signs of wolf presence, engage with the shepherds and their daily lives, accompany the flocks on the mountain, and appreciate the richness of local gastronomy, both in picnics on the hillside and in typical restaurants, which undoubtedly contributed to the satisfaction of participants who immediately expressed interest in joining future walks.
