The inauguration of the Biodiversity House, in the village of Castanheira, in Paredes de Coura, was an opportunity to present to the public, local authorities and also the Minister of the Environment, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, some of the Castro Laboreiro Dog puppies recently placed with livestock farmers in the region, under the Livestock Guardian Dog Programme. The minister showed great interest in the programme and in the use of non‑lethal measures to prevent wolf predations, instead of hunting or culling. Strategies were also discussed to facilitate, in the future, coexistence between livestock farming and the presence of the wolf.
