As part of the LIFE COEX Project, the Istituto di Ecologia Applicata organised, from 9 to 10 March, in Assisi (Italy), an international symposium on the theme Large Carnivores and Agriculture: Comparing Experiences in Italy and Europe. Technicians and researchers from various European countries were present to present the results of their work and discuss the current possibility of coexistence between large carnivores, such as the wolf and bear, threatened with extinction in many countries, and agricultural activities such as livestock farming. Experiences with different damage prevention and livestock protection methods with positive results regarding the reconciliation of human activities with the conservation of large predators were presented. Grupo Lobo was invited to present the results of the last 10 years of its project to revive the use of livestock guardian dogs as a successful way of contributing to the conservation of the Iberian wolf in Portugal.
