Grupo Lobo's line of action supporting the promotion of livestock guardian dogs has, until the end of 2009, the support of EAZA (the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria). This specific project, called The Wolf and Man: Partners in Survival, is developed in collaboration with the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and the Castro Laboreiro Dog Club. It aims to continue and expand ongoing actions to promote the use of national livestock guardian dog breeds, ensuring better flock protection and contributing to reducing conflicts between rural communities and the wolf, and to a more peaceful coexistence. EAZA is a European association of Zoos and Aquariums. Since 2000, EAZA has annually run fundraising campaigns to directly support biodiversity conservation efforts in Europe. The 2008/09 campaign is called SOS Carnivores and aims to raise awareness of the need for nature conservation in general, and of European carnivores in particular, including the Iberian wolf in Portugal. This campaign is run at European level by more than 320 EAZA partners and associates from around 35 countries, including Lisbon Zoo.
